Organic oregano from Sicily
Over the years, the production of Sicilian organic dried oregano has remained the flagship of La Valle degli Aromi in Aragona.
Oregano grown in Sicily is known for its aromatic qualities that increase after drying: its smell and taste are particularly pleasant and are characterised by an unmistakable balsamic note. The organic oregano grown by La Valle degli Aromi is of the vulgaris species' heracleodicum variety, which is extremely valuable and with a very intense aroma. From a nutritional point of view, this spice fights intestinal fermentations and stimulates appetite.
Organic spices as condiments
Organic oregano is a fundamental condiment of Mediterranean cuisine and is used in the preparation of pizza, pasta, meat, fish and eggs. In some places, it is also used to flavour certain types of beer.
Situated in Aragona, La Valle degli Aromi's organic oregano is known for its numerous therapeutic, antiseptic, analgesic, antispasmodic, expectorant and tonic properties. Its essential oil is also used in aromatherapy.
Oregano cultivation and harvesting
Oregano is harvested in June when the plant is in bloom, after which it is hung upside down to dry in a dark and well-ventilated place. When the bunch is completely dried, La Valle degli Aromi works it by hand to recuperate the flowers and leaves, and eliminate the stems and any impurities. La Valle degli Aromi produces an oregano with a strong content of essential oil, primarily due to the fact that the plant grows in a hilly terrain.
